Sketchbook

My mother is a notorious snoop.  Because of this, I developed a need for secrecy when I was younger.  When I went to visit her in 2003, I had to hide my sketchbook in her piano.

So I came up with this great idea; I would write in a code that no one could read.  It’s simple enough to write in but unfortunately, I didn’t check to see if it was easy enough for anyone to read in.  Jen picked up my sketchbook the other day and could read everything perfectly; I’m a moron.

RIP Chimera

If I’ve learned one thing in the past five months it’s Don’t run away and join the circus.

My boss, Richard, was mysteriously involved in a small circus named Circus Chimera. I say was because Chimera, performs one last time on July 2nd. The irony is Americans crave a more exciting and dangerous form of entertainment but would prefer to sit at home and watch television.

While Jefferson and Roosevelt seem not to notice the giant, American themed spider ready to crap on their heads, Lincoln is terrified and Washington is strangely excited….

I was trying to explain to my Uncle the other day what I was up to at work/life and his reaction was “that’s weird.”  It’s true, 5 months ago I took a job as an art director of a museum dedicated to Circus’ and forgotten amusement parks.  It’s not that simple but if I had to pair it down to a sentence, that’s probably the easiest way to explain it.

More accurately, I’m a diorama builder, volunteer coordinator, uncertified electrician, pinball machine tester, carpenter, painter, graphic designer, scholar in the fields of circus’ and amusement parks and just about everything else that would be required to get a museum build.

I still produce new art work in my free time.  Kirk Shelton, Bryan Blanco and I are headlining a show in Martinez call “Boys will be Boys” at the Shakey Hand Gallery during the month of July, 2007.  Both old and new pieces will be exhibited including an exclusive Boys will be Boys coloring book.  Be sure to be at the opening to get your copy.

Currently, my site is updated only when I produce a new piece of work (which is about every three weeks).  Casey, my best good buddy and web designer, secretly put a tracker on my site.  That’s right, people, I know when you’re looking.  Don’t worry, it only tells me from what city someone is looking so I don’t who’s doing so.  We noticed that site visitation I was down and decided that a blog/online sketchbook was the best way to keep updates frequent and people interested.  I’ve been up to some strange stuff since I moved to the Bay Area…
